The Vilcek Foundation: RubyContent-powered website

We mobile-optimized the website for the Vilcek Foundation in conjunction with our design partner Pentagram. The Vilcek Foundation honors foreign-born scientists and artists living in the United States who make outstanding contributions to society. RubyContent handles the complex content management and design requirements for their new website, designed by Abbott Miller and his team.

To ensure every site visitor receives an optimal user experience, RubensteinTech rebuilt the previously desktop-only website as a fully Responsive Web Design (RWD) experience. Now optimized for desktop, tablet, and mobile users, the site was also upgraded to the latest version of RubyContent to enable significant new features and benefits.

The website features a comprehensive online art gallery, which was also mobile-optimized with a complete new set of front-end templates to support RWD. Updating the site to have new templates without breaking the considerable amount of existing content required constant collaboration with our design partner.

The depth of this project is in the fully responsive implementation of 20+ unique website templates, along with the conversion from XHTML to HTML5. We learned many lessons along the way about the complexity of fully applying RWD to an existing project, and how to deal with cross-browser support issues.

The Vilcek Foundation is an exceptional client with a worthy cause; many of our team members, including our leadership, are foreign-born, 2nd-, or 3rd-generation Americans, each with immense passion for technology & design. The Vilcek Foundation shares many of our values and passions.
