RubensteinTech attends the 2015 AIGA Gala Awards Ceremony

The AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts) Gala is an annual celebration to honor the distinguished practitioners, educators and role models whose creativity, intelligence, perception, and skill have inspired and shaped the entire design profession. Proceeds from the event benefit Worldstudio AIGA Scholarships and the AIGA Legacy Fund.

A passion for design is one of our core tenets here at The Rubenstein Technology Group. Jaron Rubenstein, an active member of AIGA, was in attendance along with fellow RubensteinTech members: Director of Client Services Scott Rubenstein, Director of Software Engineering Ed Zborowski, Lead Software Engineer Steven Li, and Client Experience Lead Mason Jagel.

We were all delighted to see firsthand the medalists that were being recognized as paragons of their craft. For some, the event served as the first chance to meet some of our design partners in person, finally pairing the voice with the face.

One highlight was meeting with medalist Emory Douglas. Douglas was the graphic designer for the Black Panther Party. He told us about how he has began using social media to not only view other artists's work, but to help those artists to generate interest in their work. He also spoke about an impressive collaborative experience he had in Australia, where independant artists from a remote village relied on natural resources to create paint and other art materials.

We also heard from Paola Antonelli, curator in the Department of Architecture and Design at the MoMA in New York City. She had much to say about design's history, theory, and influence on society-

"I would like people to keep a very open mind, and start understanding that everything is design. Design is supposed to be for everybody. Everybody can be a critic. Was this object worth the materials: intellectual, physical, marketing, everything?"

The medalist intro videos created by Dress Code, and the speeches themselves, were heartfelt and inspiring.

It was an exceptional experience, and an opportunity to celebrate the profession with some of its most accomplished leaders.
